I've taken battery out and I've left device out to dry. Will data still be there?

  Take the battery out and leave it out overnight in a dry warm place. I've even heard of people putting the device in white rice. 

   It might not be dry yet. It could take a few days before it really dries out.

Blackberry fell into water. After cleaning and drying out brifely came to life but stopped at unlock screen(something done before) said drained shut down. Eventually got it to boot up screen flickering and then died.

Have a few text messages not in outlook want to recover? Is there any hope? Realize device is toast

Don't have backup as most data synched in outlook. Hooked up to blackberry deskotp manager. Doesn't see device plugged in or not
